How much Internet data does Counter-Strike 2 use? [2026]

counter-strike-2-internet-data-usage

Counter-Strike 2 is one of the biggest names in competitive gaming right now.

It has been around for a while, and the player base is still going incredibly strong!

When a player jumps into CS2 for the first time or even after years of playing, certain questions tend to come up.

And one of the most common ones is about how much internet data the game actually consumes.

So, how much internet data does Counter-Strike 2 use?

On average, Counter-Strike 2 uses around 160 to 250 MB of internet data per hour, which is moderate compared to most online shooters out there.

However, in certain cases like during high-intensity matches, busy servers, or with specific in-game settings, the data usage can spike up to 400 MB per hour or even higher.

Generally though, for most players under normal conditions, the data usage tends to stay around 180 MB per hour.

In this article, I've answered this question in more detail!

I've also answered another related question that comes to the minds of a lot of Counter-Strike 2 players!

So, without any further ado, let us dive right into it!

Internet Data Usage of Counter-Strike 2

I did some research to find out the actual internet data usage of Counter-Strike 2.

I got in touch with a few friends who actively play CS2 and asked them to monitor the data the game used on their devices.

I did the same on my end as well.

All of us played Counter-Strike 2 for one continuous hour on our respective devices and then noted down the data consumed during that session.

After going through all the results, I found that the data usage of CS2 was in the range of 150 MB to 250 MB per hour across the different devices and setups.

However, on the majority of the devices, the game used around 180 MB of internet data per hour.

So, we can conclude that the internet data usage of Counter-Strike 2 is around 180 MB per hour under normal playing conditions.

From this, it's pretty straightforward to figure out the weekly and monthly data consumption as well!

If you play Counter-Strike 2 for one hour every day for a week, the total internet data used would be around 1.23 GB per week.

And if you play for one hour every day throughout an entire month, the total data consumed would come out to around 5.27 GB per month.

Now, one thing worth mentioning separately is the spike cases.

In certain situations like playing on servers with high tick rates, being in a match with a lot of simultaneous action, or having specific network settings configured, the data usage of CS2 can jump up to 400 MB per hour or beyond.

So if you're on a limited data plan and you notice unusually high consumption, this is most likely the reason behind it.

Now, you might also want to know how much data Counter-Strike 2 uses based on how long you play each day.

I've put together a handy table below to help you with exactly that!

I've done all the math already, so you don't have to worry about it.

Here's the table:

Playtime per day Data usage per day Data usage per week Data usage per month
1 hour 180 MB 1.23 GB 5.27 GB
2 hours 360 MB 2.46 GB 10.55 GB
3 hours 540 MB 3.69 GB 15.82 GB
4 hours 720 MB 4.92 GB 21.09 GB
5 hours 900 MB 6.15 GB 26.36 GB
6 hours 1.05 GB 7.38 GB 31.64 GB
7 hours 1.23 GB 8.61 GB 36.91 GB

Note: The data usage of Counter-Strike 2 has been taken as 180 MB per hour in the above table.

Does Counter-Strike 2 use a LOT of Internet data?

Compared to most competitive online shooters, Counter-Strike 2 sits in the moderate range at around 180 MB per hour under normal conditions.

That's actually quite reasonable for a game of its scale and competitive depth.

However, the spike cases are something to be aware of especially if you're playing on high tick-rate servers or longer matches with heavy voice chat usage!

In those scenarios, the data usage climbing past 400 MB per hour is not unusual at all.

So for casual players, CS2 is pretty data-friendly. But for hardcore competitive players putting in long sessions daily, it's worth keeping an eye on your data consumption.

Conclusion

In this article, I've answered one of the most commonly asked questions among the Counter-Strike 2 community: how much internet data does the game actually use.

I've also covered the spike cases that can push the data usage significantly higher than the average!

I'll keep updating the data in this article as things change over time.

Note: The data in this article is up-to-date, as of 21st May 2026.

Now, I'd love to hear from you:

Do you already play Counter-Strike 2? If yes, are you more of a casual player or a ranked grinder?

Or maybe you've got a question!
